Cloughjordan’s eco-neighbourhood is a new sustainable development of 114 homes and 16 live/work units closely integrated into the main town of Cloughjordan. The 67-acre neighbourhood extends to the north of the town centre and the entrance forms a new intersection on the Main Street. The ecovillage has 50 acres of land for allotments, farming and woodland, a solar- and wood- powered community heating system, community buildings, and much more. It will also be the location of the new Cloughjordan Enterprise Centre, set up and managed by the newly established North Tipperary Green Enterprise Park Ltd (NTGEP), to provide workspace and services to facilitate the growth of eco entrepreneurship in North Tipperary.
Construction has began on 30 low-energy houses and the first residents moved into their homes in December 2009.
